Canada takes action to support Housing with new Immigration Pathways for Construction Workers

In a bold step to address the national housing shortage, Canada has unveiled new immigration pathways tailored specifically for construction workers. These pathways aim to fast-track the arrival of skilled tradespeople — from carpenters to electricians — who are essential to meeting the country’s urgent housing development goals.

By aligning immigration with labour market needs, the government is not only supporting economic growth but also ensuring that homes are built faster and communities continue to thrive.

Eric Katz’s comments on the new Immigration Pathways for Construction Workers:

IRCC’s announcement today regarding the intent to introduce a number of new measures to support Canada’s construction industry comes as a breath of fresh air for the economy.

It is clear that construction workers in the skilled trades are essential to growing our aging infrastructure and lack of housing in Canada. This can only work if we make it simpler to bring these people here quickly and with less red tape.

In addition, IRCC’s commitment to bring out of status construction workers a pathway to permanent residence will shrink the underground economy and widen the tax base without having to raise taxes. Good policy.
